Hover UAV this year was very happy to cover all the action from the air once again at this years Sail Port Stephens Regatta 2017. A record 112 boats and crews made the journey to Port Stephens from South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and other NSW ports for the week-long event split into two halves and deemed the best-ever in terms of perfect autumn sunshine and a range of manageable sailing conditions.

Sunday’s closing races determined the Garmin IRC state title, Super 12 state title and Performance Racing and cruising fleet place-getters in the second-half Port Stephens Trophy.

IRC NSW state title winner RKO, Aaron Rowe’s Sydney-based TP52 from the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, was in a league of its own over the three days.

Covering the Action Via Drone

Sail Port Stephens is an annual yachting regatta held in the gorgeous waterways of the Port Stephens Marine Park, with the regatta centre hosted at d’Albora Marina, Nelson Bay.

The regatta offers great sailing, a dynamic social and entertainment program, plus loads of children’s activities on and off the water.

Sail Port Stephens is one of the fastest growing regattas on the Australian calendar and set to become an internationally recognised yachting event. It’s family friendly, affordable and fun!

You can drive to Port Stephens from Sydney in less than three hours. Alternatively, fly from Melbourne or Queensland direct to Newcastle Airport. There’s a wide range of accommodation available to suit any budget.

For those not able to make it to beautiful Port Stephens for the event, Hover UAV and its fleet of drones were in attendance to bring you all the action no matter where you were. This year saw drone action both inshore and offshore giving unprecedented aerial vision of all competitors and action packed racing.
