BVLOS Operations A–Z: The Ultimate Guide to Drone Success

On Wednesday, 4 June, Hover UAV hosted one of its most anticipated webinars yet— BVLOS Operations A–Z: The Ultimate Guide to Drone Success—and it was a massive success. Designed for Chief Remote Pilots, operations managers, regulators, and anyone working in or around the RPAS industry, this dynamic one-hour session provided a complete walkthrough of everything you need to know to succeed with Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations in Australia, New Zealand and beyond.

Throughout the session, participants were taken step-by-step through the critical elements of the BVLOS journey. The webinar kicked off with guidance on how to develop a strong and effective Concept of Operations (ConOps) tailored to specific mission goals and operational environments. From there, it moved into selecting the right tools for the job, with insights into hardware, software, communications systems, and Drone-in-a-Box (DIAB) technology, all essential for modern BVLOS programs. A large portion of the session was devoted to understanding the regulatory landscape, specifically how to prepare successful submissions to CASA and the CAA, and what authorities are really looking for in BVLOS applications. Importantly, the session also covered how to prepare for CASA’s flight test, including internal documentation, team readiness, and flight planning. The final section addressed how to sustain operations post-approval, with a focus on compliance, ongoing internal training, flight safety, and best-practice planning.

The Panel

This expert-led session featured a powerhouse panel of professionals. Moderated by Hover UAV CEO Jackie Dujmovic, the panel included Dylan Bishop, Senior Consultant and Technical Writer at Hover UAV; Andrew Tridgell, Systems Lead at ArduPilot and Adjunct Associate Professor at the Australian National University; and Jessica Irwin, Survey Technician at Whitehaven Coal. The diversity of expertise on display gave attendees rare access to real-world BVLOS knowledge, from fire detection operations and survey missions to automated industrial use cases and systems integration.

What the BVLOS Webinar Covered – BVLOS Operations A–Z

The webinar was practical, inclusive, and highly informative. Rather than focusing on theory, it offered actionable advice for organisations at every stage of their BVLOS journey—from those exploring their first BVLOS operation to advanced users scaling their enterprise drone programs. It also tackled current issues around safety and scalability, UTM and FIMS integration, and aligning with national aviation authorities (NAA). If you work with remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), manage aviation risk, or are looking to enhance drone program efficiency, this webinar is essential viewing.

Join the BVLOS Revolution

As BVLOS operations continue to shape the future of drone technology, staying informed and compliant is more important than ever. Acronyms such as BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight), RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems), DIAB (Drone in a Box), UTM (Unmanned Traffic Management), FIMS (Flight Information Management System), and SORA (Specific Operations Risk Assessment) are now central to aviation operations, and understanding them is key to success.

Hover UAV remains at the forefront of BVLOS innovation, offering support, consulting, and training to help you move forward with confidence. For questions or to learn more about how we can support your BVLOS approvals or operations, contact us at info@hoveruav.com.au.
