Australian Roads and Research Road

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Michael McCormack officially opened the National Transport Research Centre.  Australian Road Research Board’s (ARRB) new national headquarters – in front of more than 250 guests was opened at Port Melbourne in late 2018.

Mr. McCormack paid tribute to ARRB’s work in the wider transport sector, which will be furthered by the state-of-the-art research facility.

“The George Jetson philosophy and visions of the future are happening right before us, and you at ARRB are front and centre of that,” he said.

The National Transport Research Centre features world-class research labs and more than 100 staff working on everything from driver less vehicles and road safety to new smart pavements and what smart cities of the future should look like.

The Australian Road Research Board (ARRB) is the source of independent expert transport knowledge, advising key decision makers on our nation’s most important challenges. When it comes to all aspects of roads and transport, ARRB is the leading provider of value-added applied research and technical services. We’ve been doing it since 1960.

The opening day’s activities included displays of autonomous and electric vehicles from Holden, Tesla, Volvo, Jaguar and Mercedes, a hydrogen-powered Toyota, plus a look at one of ARRB’s current projects – a road safety drone.

MEDICAL DRONE DELIVERIES

Hover UAV was very proud to demonstrate the future of drone technology by demonstrating to the deputy Prime Minister the delivery of a defibrillator and communications  to an accident scene. As we know when it comes to human life and medical care time is of the essence. There is a 10% reduction in survival for every minute that your heart has stopped.

Expediting the delivery of on scene medical equipment will become a vital service moving into the future. It is hoped that drones can be dispatched into the future to accident scenes giving authorities eyes on the scene improving situational awareness as well as delivering life saving medical equipment to help save lives.
